This painting was commissioned as part of the Connecting Histories: Women in Surgery Project (2024-2026).
The painting depicts the namesakes and recipients of the Hunter Doig Award. The award was set up by Miss Caroline Doig (the first woman elected to RCSEd Council in 1984) in 2007 and is named after Miss Doig and Miss Alice Headwards Hunter (the first woman to become a Fellow of the RCSEd in 1920). The medal is awarded to a female Fellow or Member of The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh to recognise excellence within the female membership.
