DescriptionOral airway. Use to assist in patients being ventilated with manual resuscitators. They depress the tongue and prevent it from falling to the back of the throat where it would obstruct the airway. Brown rubber (originally red) tube with an oviod metal insert and a metal collar. On the metal collar is stamped 'Allen & Hanburys Ltd, England, TN'. Rubber tube has broken just below the metal insert, and airway is now in two parts. The Phillips airway was a modification of the Hewitt airway. It was still marketed in the 1970s and illustrated in textbooks as late as 1985.
