DescriptionOral airway. Use to assist in patients being ventilated with manual resuscitators. They depress the tongue and prevent it from falling to the back of the throat where it would obstruct the airway. Brown rubber (originally red) tube with an ovoid metal insert and a metal collar. On the metal collar is stamped 'Holborn S.I Co, 2, H.M Govt.' The Phillips airway was a modification of the Hewitt airway. It was still marketed in the 1970s and illustrated in textbooks as late as 1985.
