Object numberGC.8415
TitleA retained left testis, with malformation of the epididymis.
DescriptionA retained left testis, with malformation of the epididymis, which is a duct behind the testis through which sperm passes.
From a 24 year old male, who was admitted to hospital on account of retention of the left testis at the abdominal inguinal ring. At operation a structure which looked like epididymis was found parallel and lateral to the cord and testis but appeared to have no direct connection with either.
The testis is small and globular and only at its superior extremity is attached to the epididymis. There is a well-developed appendix testis and on the head of the epididymis an appendix of the epididymis. The body and tail of the epididymis are directed proximally away from the testis as if some proximal adhesion had prevented their proper junction. The structure parallel to the testis consists of a ductus deferens and many vessels and microscopic examination confirms this showing ducts of the epididymis, the ductus deferens, thickened blood-vessel and plain muscle fibres
