Prostate showing a carcinoma

TitleProstate showing a carcinoma
DescriptionProstate showing a carcinoma
The prostate has been laid open to show a carcinoma infiltrating the base of the bladder. There has evidently been some obstruction to the outflow of urine as a coloured glass rod indicates a false passage at the commencement of the prostatic urethra.
The prostate has been of considerable size, dense and fibrous and in shape fairly regular. There is no line of demarcation between the prostate and the bladder wall. Microscopically the growth consists of masses of large epithelial cells forming an adenocarcinoma lying in delicate alveoli.
