The prostate is only slightly enlarged, is very firm in consistency, and the cut surface shows much dense fibrous tissue, with minute yellow foci of malignant glandular tissue. The tumour has extended into and around the seminal vesicles and also invades the adjacent bladder wall. The whole of the trigone is studded with nodules.
Microsections show masses of epithelial cells of variable size with deeply staining nuclei. There is only imperfect alveolar arrangement, and much dense fibrous tissue formation. The tumour is of the scirrhous type.
