DescriptionBladder with the prostatic urethra laid open anteriorly showing deformity.
From an adult male.
There is considerable enlargement of the prostate from the posterior portion of which a large hypertrophic nodule projects into the bladder cavity and overhangs the internal urethral orifice. The bladder is increased in capacity, is excessively trabeculated but shows little muscular hypertrophy. Some distance above the left ureteric orifice a smooth circular opening some 25 mm, in diameter leads to a large diverticulum, part of which has been removed to show its somewhat roughened inner surface. At a corresponding part on the right side four oval openings lead to diverticula which bulge prominently from the posterior surface of the bladder distal to the rectovesical pouch. The ureters are only slightly dilated.
