TitleProstatic calculus
DescriptionPROSTATE Prostatic calculus.
From a male in Sierra Leone age 50. He had a right hydrocele of twenty-three years’ duration and a stricture of the urethra which was supposed to be post-gonococcal. A bougie impinged on a stone apparently at the neck of the bladder. On suprapubic cystotomy, however, there was no vesical calculus but a stone replacing the prostate and the mucosa required free incision before the stone could be removed. Death occurred four weeks later from kidney disease.
The calculus probably originated in the kidney and became impacted in the prostatic urethra forming a prostatic pouch. it increased by accretion the prostate has atrophied and the calculus has taken its place.
