Ophthalmic diagnostic or training instrument

Object numberED.CS.2023.71
TitleOphthalmic diagnostic or training instrument
DescriptionCase containing a small metal instrument consisting of a hollow barrell with an adjustable shutter. Inside the barrel is a concave insert which depicts a view of the retina. The barrell sinstrument has a short stand which screws into a flat base. There are 4 frosted glass lenses which slot into the the tube area of the instrument.
This may be used for training, possibly in the use of an opthalmoscope, as the frosted glass mimics the vitreous body of the eyeball. No light can enter the instrument naturally, so an instrument like an ophthamoscope would need to be used to see the view of the retina (much like a human eye).
A small paper note inside the case reads 'Dr Charles W Graham', and a label has also been added which reads 'Dr Stokoe'.
