Object numberGCX.180
TitleHumerus - simple cyst
DescriptionMale age 12 years. This boy presented with a crack fracture through the upper end of his right humerus. X-ray disclosed a bone cyst which was treated by curettage and filling with autogenous bone chips, with clinical cure. Solitary bone cysts often occupy the entire diameter of the affected bone, as it does in this case; A feature which helps to distinguish them from aneurysmal bone cysts with which otherwise they might be confused on X-ray, for aneurysmal bone cysts are frequently eccentrically placed. The x-ray shows the lytic lesion in the metaphysis of the upper end of the humerus. The cortex is slightly expanded and there is some subperiosteal new bone formation. The lesion is well defined.
