Excised from a female age 39 years. The encrusting cartilage is ragged and has been extensively eroded around the periphery of tibial and femoral condyles. Where the cartilage has been destroyed the bone is covered only by granulation tissue. The cartilage remains at the areas of contact of the femoral and tibial condyles but it is undermined and separated off the bone at places by the granulation tissue.
