Kidney showing renal vein thrombosis

Object numberGC.15106
TitleKidney showing renal vein thrombosis
DescriptionKidney showing renal vein thrombosis.
The kidney itself is swollen and oedematous and at the lower pole grossly discoloured by haemorrhage. Adjacent to the vena cava are two pigmented nodules, probably lymph nodes.
The cut surface shows the thrombosed renal vein. The hilum of the kidney appears to be compressed by a distinctly enlarged lymph node. The lymph node suggests replacement by a uniform, homogenous plastic tissue with areas of haemorrhage.
