TitleWater colour drawing showing upward dislocation of hip joint
Creator Robert Wilson (1880-1940) Matthews (Artist)
DescriptionWater colour drawing showing portion of the left os innominatum with the proximal half of of the femur, showing an old upward dislocation of the hip joint. From a dissecting room subject. The medial two thirds of the head of the femur form a flattened surface the inferior half of hicg has rested on the illiac surface of the acetabulum while the superior half is somewhat irregular covered with cartilage and has articulated with a hollow on the dorsum illii which has constituted part of a false joint. The smaller trochanter is large and broader than usual form contact with the prosterior surface of the ischial portion of the acetabulm. A strong band of tissue, the somewhat altered iliofemerol ligament connect the intertrochanteric line with the anterior inferior iliac spine. Fibrous tissue and remains of the thickened articular capsule partly obliterate the cotyloid cavity. The false articular surface on the dorsum ilii is defined by the intoroduction of the bristle circumferentially. The bones in the neighburhood of the joint are normal. The appearance suggest a dislocation from spastic hemiplegia rather than from a traumatic displacement.
