DescriptionWatercolour drawing of half of a vertical section of a right tibia showing a periosteal sarcoma. Of a male aged 17 years who while convalescent from pleurisy noticed a swelling of the right knee. Little attention was paid to it until 5 weeks before admission, when pain of a doll character, worse at night, commenced. The swelling was most distinct over the medial condyle of the tibia, was it elastic to the touch, and slightly pulsatile. The new joint itself is unaffected and its movements were free. The limb was amputated through mid-thigh and as one of the popliteal lymph nodes was large and on section appeared to be malignant, the iliofemoral lymph nodes were excised. He died 18 months later with signs of a mediastinal tumour.
