DescriptionEarly Thoracoscope. Two parts. Long hollow metal tube with scissor attachment and small angled clamp at end. Two small perpendicular protruding attachments. Small inscription reading 'Storz Germany 10350 L'.
Second part is a long thick metal rod with a small lense at the end. The instrument head has a single producting cylindrical attachment. Black plastic central part inscribed with 'HOPKINS', Storz Germany', and '10320 B 30'. End of instrument is a black circuler piece with a small lense at the centre.
Thoracoscopes are used for a specific type of endoscopy - internal imaging technique. These devices can help when there is a need to visualize lungs, pleura or mediastinum. This is a Hopkins telescopic rod lens, which allows adjustment of the viewing direction during video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery.
