TitleAssortment of antique eye speculums
DescriptionEight brass and gold antique eye speculums. Six of the speculums bare the makers mark 'Weiss London', one is marked 'Down London' and the final one is marked 'Dixey London' all were made in England. The instrument is used to hold open the eyelids for examination or surgery of the eye. In the assortment there is wide variety in how the instruments are operated, however all include a tightening screw to hold the instrument at a particular width and some form of hooks to hold back the eyelid.
Part of 13 donated objects from the ophthalmology collection once belonging to P.K. Ray and used by Mr Frank Green FRCSEd.
