TitleFibrous hyperplasia of the breast
DescriptionBREAST and Histology Slide x1
Segment of a mamma between parallel sections 20 mm. apart showing fibrous hyperplasia with abscess formation from an adult female. The nipple is retracted and the neighbouring skin is of a brown tint. On the areola is a small sinus and a slightly larger sinus on the skin near the areola from which protrude granulations. The corpus mammae forms a well defined, oval mass of retractile white fibrous tissue containing few spaces. At the centre an irregular inflammatory area shows localized necrosis. Microscopic examination shows chronic fibrous hyperplasia.
