DescriptionAdrenal gland showing phaemochromcytoma.
A middle-aged woman who had suffered from headaches for 9 years was investigated for hypertension. Radiological examination suggested that the right renal artery was stenosed and it was decided to perform a right nephrectomy in the hope of ameliorating the condition. During the operation the blood pressure rose to 260mm Hg. There was a stormy post operative course with catastrophic falls in blood pressure, and the patient ultimately died.
At necropsy a phaetochromocytoma 4cm in diameter was found in the left adrenal gland
