TitleCryoextractor
Creator Miller & Patch Inc. Smith
DescriptionThis instrument was used in cryoextraction, the procedure of removing a lens that had developed a cataract (a cloudy lens) from the eye by freezing and then extracting it. The frozen lens could be removed intact to be replaced with an intraocular lens. The cryoextractor consists of a refrigerant can and a valve; the refrigerant can would create freezing temperatures inside the valve, which would then be applied to the lens. The instrument is designed for single use and aseptically packaged. Cryoextraction is a procedure that is now rarely performed. (NO GARTNAVEL CATALOGUE NUMBER ATTACHED)
