DescriptionTwo red academic gowns and one hood once beloning to Professor James H Lawrie (1924-2017) OBE, MD, FRCS Ed, FRCS, FRCPS Glas, DCH. The dress gown label indicate this gown once belonged to Professor Eddington MD. The gowns are made by R.Forsyth, Robe Maker, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
The gowns are of unknown academic origin but are presumably from one of Lawries University studies or appointments, most likely his degree from Glasgow University. Lawrie's academic history began when he graduated from Glasgow University in 1953. He held the Chair of Surgery at the Welsh National School of Medicine at Cardiff. Took up the post of Chair of Surgery at the newly established medical school of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria in 1969. Professor of surgery at Blantyre University, Malawi 1985.
