TitleThyroid Gland showing Tuberculosis
DescriptionPortion of the neck between horizontal sections 25 mm. apart showing tuberculosis of the thyreoid gland.
From an adult.
The right lobe of the thyreoid gland is considerably enlarged and on section shows most of the thyreoid tissue replaced by consolidated, homogeneous, pinkish-grey areas which are in places ill defined and tend to become confluent. A considerable mass lies between the oesophagus and trachea, separating them by 15 mm. and a small nodule appears in the adjacent posterior part of the left lobe of the gland. Microscopic examination shows the characteristic follicles of tuberculosis.
