DescriptionBlack leather box containing ophthalmological test lenses, manufactured in Glasgow by John Trotter Ltd. The set includes 143 lenses, consisting of metal rimmed convave and convex sphere lens and cylinder lens, prism lens and accessory lens. Optical metal trial frame, ruler, and a boxed Berwick Lens Measure made by Gowllands, England.
John Trotter set up business in Gordon Street, Glasgow in the 1880s with a branch opening in Edinburgh in the 1920s. Trotter was a pioneer in many branches of optical science and he also advised hospitals on the instillation of X-ray apparatus.
