DescriptionMicrotome knife, by Enrst Leitz, mid 20th century. Used by Dr Ernst Levin (1887-1975), who came from Germany in the 1930s to work at the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh with Norman Dott (1897-1973).
The blade has a plane-concave profile, so possibly used for cutting celloidin blocks in order to make thin sections viewble under a microscope, otherwise known as histology. On the blade stem is stamped the size, b, and W.Wall (?).
