DescriptionRound silver gilt pear shaped cup, chased tapered with 6 chased floral pattern panels and one panel inscribed at front. There are two entwined grape and vine handles. The lid is a round dome with floral chasing and wavy edge and the plinth is wooden, silver mounted with double vacant plaques. The cup weighs 85oz. A Victorian silver trophy cup, Elkington & Co, Birmingham 1860.
It is inscribed: “Presented to George Mackay Esq MD As a testimonial of appreciation of his professional care and of personal regard and esteem. Ootacamund. December 31st 1860”
It bears the names of several ladies (“mistresses”) and gentlemen (“messieurs”) and officers who include a General and a Lt Colonel. It was donated by George Mackay, PRCSEd, son of the George Mackay to whom it was originally presented.
