DescriptionThe lotus shaped dish is made of Indian silver. It has chased panels depicting various scenes with round centre depicting village life. All are on a detachable branch leading to a lotus bud. An outturned leaf is mounted on a bead and pumpkin shaped stem on a round cushion heavily chased with panels depicting birds and animals with three applied peacocks, a snake, a cockroach and a scorpion on a rope border. It is mounted on 3 squat lion feet and all are on a fitted wooden plinth with a silver plate on front. It weighs
153oz.
There is no hallmark, An Indian silver comport, late 19th century.
It is inscribed “Presented by H.H. the Thakore of Goudal MB LLD (Edin) To Sir William Turner KCB MB (Lond) FRS, President 1892 and gifted to the RCSE 19th October 1927 by A Logan Turner PRCS (1925-1927).”
