TitleCigar Box, Col A Johnstone Brown
DescriptionThe plain silver cigar box is decorated with a crest and facsimile. The hallmark is Chester 1927.
It is inscribed: “To Colonel A Johnstone Brown 52nd Division from the Officers of the 155th (Lowland) Field Ambulance. 15th February 1929” Andrew Johnstone Brown (1883 - c1956) served his apprenticeship from 1899 till 1904 and obtained his LDS in 1907 and the Triple Qualification in 1909. He enrolled in the Territorial Army and joined the 52nd Division on the outbreak of World War I. As a Captain he was one of the Division which set out from Stirling for Gallipoli in June 1915 and served with distinction in the Middle East and later in France. Brown rose to the rank of Colonel and was eventually ADMS of the Division.
In civilian life, he was Dental Surgeon to the Longmore Hospital and Demonstrator in Radiology at the Dental Hospital. In 1923, he became a dental examiner at the Royal College of Surgeons and obtained his Fellowship in 1931.
