Object numberGC.8718
TitlePapilloma of the auricula
DescriptionAuricula. A papilloma from the left
From an adult male who had been aware of a rounded tumour of the lobule of the left auricula during five years. It had gradually increased in size and had. become black in colour, circular and flattened, and nodular on the surface. The lobule was amputated as the tumour seemed a potential melanoma.
The tumour has a coarse warty surface formed by. closely set epithelial processes arising from a broad well-defined base. The peripheral processes are stained black on their exposed surfaces. Microscopic examination shows a papilloma with a fine core in its long processes. There is no evidence of malignancy. There is hyperkeratosis and a considerable subepithelial inflammatory cell (lymphocytic) reaction.
