From a male aged 19 years, a miner, who thirteen years previously had mastoidectomy performed for otitis media. Eighteen months later the hypertrophied cicatrix was excised from the post-auricular regions After some months the growth re-appeared and was again excised. The tumour again recurred however and five years after the mastoidectomy he was subjected without benefit to eight months radiotherapy. The tumour thereafter gradually increased until eight years after the radiotherapy it reached its present dimensions.
The tumour is a sausage-shaped fibrous mass measuring 100 mm. in length, 20 mm, in breadth, and 30 mm. in depth. It is divided into lobules on the surface by five transverse narrow sulci. Apart from the presence of cicatrices the skin covering it is normal, Microscopically the tumour is a diffuse fibroma showing dense collagen bundles with much proliferation of fibroblasts.
