DescriptionLarynx, laid open by anterior rnesial section, showing carcinoma.
Removed by laryngectomy from an adult in whom the disease probably commenced within the larynx and spread to the rima glottidis and the epiglottis.
A solid tumour, commencing anteriorly at the level of the cricoid cartilage, has spread in a wedge-shaped mass to the aditus laryngis and, forming an extension in the subglottic area, has produced a warty destruction of the epiglottis. The vocal folds, ventricles, and the ventricular folds, are obliterated by the neoplasm which superiorly forms a warty surface, and on section appears homogeneous and dense. Microscopic examination shows the structure of a squamous-cell carcinoma.
