TitleDrawings of bilateral congenital dislocation of the hip joints
Creator Robert Wilson (1880-1940) Matthews (Artist)
DescriptionSix monochrome drawings showing bilateral congenital dislocation of the hip joints.
Of a bright, intelligent, healthy female aged 7 years, of good family and personal history. She walked first at eighteen months, developed a rolling gait and was easily tired on exertion. The dislocations were reduced by manipulation and radiography showed both femoral heads in good position. Later radiography showed the right femoral head displaced on to the dorsum ilii and on two occasions it was replaced. Three years later radiography showed that the displacement of both hips had recurred.
Three pictures show the fulness and breadth at the hips, the high position of the trochanters major, the lumbar lordosis and the separation of the thighs, characteristics of congenital dislocation. Two pictures show the position in plaster after “reduction” and the last picture shows the child’s method of progression while wearing the plaster case.
