TitleOsteoma from nose cavity
DescriptionOsteoma from nose cavity. An osteoma is a benign tumour of bone
The preparation is a half of a vertical section of a dense osteoma from the cavity of the nose.
From a male aged 40 years who had suffered from a discharge from his right nostril, and discomfort, during many years. Some polypi had been removed and the tumour was considered to be a rhinolith. The tumour, which had probably originated in the ethmoidal bone, had become loose but wa too large for spontaneous discharge. Removal was rendered possible only after enlarging the osseous boundaries of the nares. Death from septic meningitis followed a week later.
Two saw-cuts are noticeable on the surface from ineffectual efforts to divide the tumour at the operation. The cut surface is eburnated and shows the extreme density of the bone.
