TitleThyroid with a calcified cyst
DescriptionThyroid with a calcified cyst
An incidental finding at necroscopy of a woman of 80. Both lobes of the thyroid are enlarged by colloid storage, the left lobe being one-and-a-half times the usual size. The parathyroids were normal. The right lobe of the thyoid contained a calcified cyst about the size of a hen's egg. Its wall was several millimetres thick, was very hard, and had to be sawn. On opening the cyst clear colourless fluid escaped.
Microscopical examination of the surrounding thyroid showed colloid storage, some fibrosis and lymphocytic infilltration.
