TitleLarynx showing changes due to acquired syphilis.
DescriptionLarynx, with the cervical portion of the trachea, laid open posteriorly, with the fauces and portion of the tongue, showing changes due to acquired syphilis.
Ulceration of the soft palate and of the faucial isthmus has left cicatricial bands between the uvula and the pharyngeal wall. With the exception of the epiglottis the interior of the larynx shows extensive ulceration, the right vocal fold being completely destroyed. The cricoid cartilage is exposed and partly necrosed, as is also the proximal cartilage of the trachea. The more distal portion of the trachea is unaffected.
