Brachycephalic skull

Object numberGC.5385
TitleBrachycephalic skull
DescriptionThis skull was resurrected from a now disused graveyard in the town of Dundee, where the girl worked as a mill worker. The doctor who obtained the skull knew the family and said that most of the children died early but they all apparently had the same shape of head, the only remaining child being a brother who in 1887 was an inmate of a lunatic asylum. His first sign of insanity being that when an elder in the Established Church of Scotland he became a Roman Catholic!
The capacity of the skull is 105 cubic inches. There are very prominent parietal eminences, the frontal also are distinct and the skull is markedly brachycephalic. There is obliteration of the sagittal suture, except for 3/4 of an inch from the coronal. The basi spheno-occipital suture is still present. The wisdom teeth have erupted.
