TitleAppendicitis
DescriptionVermiform process in longitudinal section showing appendicitis
From an adult the subject of recurrent appendicitis on account of which the vermiform process was removed during a quiescent stage of the illness.
The process is short, swollen and irregular and the serosa shows areas of hyperaemia alternating with a more general avascular fibrosis. On section the wall is thick and fibrous and the lumen partly obliterated. At several places a number of diverticula pass through the muscular coat giving rise to nodules on the serous surface or projecting into the thick fleshy mesenteriole.
