From a male aged 19 years who on the third day of abdominal pain treated by a copious dose of castor oil, looked and felt well. Coeliotomy showed diffuse septic peritonitis and through the wall of a gangrenous vermiform process a pin, the head and greater part of which was embedded in a concretion, projected into the surrounding purulent exudate. The vermiform process is hyperaemic, thick and oedematous. A shallow depression marks the site of the concretion and a bristle indicates the. perforation.
