DescriptionWet specimen. Salivary gland. Hemisection of a “mixed” tumour of a parotid
From a female from the Congo, aged 53 years, in whom a tumour of the cheek formed a hard, lobulated, globular, well defined growth connected with the parotid gland.
The tumour is somewhat oval and measures in its long diameter 50 mm. It is covered by a thin fibrous capsule and the surface is nodular. Section shows irregular lobules composed of fibrous tissue, hyaline cartilaginous-looking areas, myxomatous tissue and a few irregular spaces. Microscopic examination shows the structure of a “mixed” tumour of the salivary-gland type with strands of epithelium and much mucinous transformation. There was no evidence of malignancy.
