TitleA Harrington’s Improved Clockwork Drill – The Erado, 1864
DescriptionHarrington's clockwork 'Erado' drill. Harrington’s clockwork device for preparing cavities. When wound, this revolved by means of a powerful spring acting on cog-wheels.
In its original walnut veneered velvet-lined case, which also contains a straight and a right-angled holder for burs and drills: with a key for operating the mechanism.
Designed and made by George Fellows Harrington, this was the first drill to allow continuous rotation. It has been proposed that examples of the drill with elaborate engraved casings were made as presentation, or demonstration models.
