DescriptionA set of eleven burs and one excavator.
These fit into a steel shaft with ivory sides. At the other end there is a German silver rotating crutch-handle, which rested in the palm of the hand between the thumb and index finger. When pressure was exerted on it, the tips of these digits rotated the shaft.
In a pocket cross-grained skiver covered case.
John Tomes (1815—95) illustrated, A System of Dental Surgery (1859), fig. 132, this type of instrument, and stated that he had been using it for several years.
