DescriptionThe specimen is the unopened gallbladder. The organ is pear-shaped and measures 5.5 cm. x 4.0 cm. It is largely filled by a single cholesterol stone the size of a walnut. The wall of the gallbladder is thickened and fibrous, and contains calcium except in the region of the neck. Between the stone and the wall there is a layer of brownish pigment material. Tissue for sectioning was taken from the fundus and neck.
