DescriptionHeterotopic pancreas.
This specimens shows a small ulcer of the anterior wall immediately proximal to the pylorus. Situated immediately inferior to the first part of the duodenum and partly in the wall of the duodenum is a small circular mass, (3-4mm. in diameter) and paler in colour than the mucosa. Sections show this to be aberrant pancreatic tissue with the presene of islets.
From male aged 61, who had a history of duodenal ulcer for many years. A radiological examination showed a scarred and deformed duodenum. Maximum histamin response was 46/7 m.Eq in one hour. A partial gastrectomy of the Polya type was carried out. At operation a small nodule was found immediately below the inferior border of the duodenum.
