TitleLiver, cirrhosis
Creator James DAVIDSON
DescriptionWet specimen in a glass jar.
Vertical section of a liver showing hepatitus cirrhosis, from a female aged 47, the subject of occasional bronchitis and leucorrhoe. Post mortem examination showed a small, nodular liver with a large diffluent spleen.
The free border of the liver is crenated and the surface is irregularly nodular, the yellowish colour of the nodules contrasting with the general purple tint of the rest of the liver. Microscopic examination shows a well developed multilobular cirrhosis with a very definite round cell infiltration in the portal canals. There is fatty degeneration of the liver cells with at the same time cell hypertrophy. The bile ducts are distinct with the fibrous tissue and there are phagocytes with haemosiderin content.
