DescriptionClinical history:
From a male child aged 4 years, who for twenty-four hours had had abdominal pain associated with marked tenderness in the right iliac fossa. The appendix was removed at operation and the child made a satisfactory
recovery.
Description of specimen:
This is a typical appendicitis. The changes being most marked in the distal half where the peritoneum is acutely congested and covered with a yellowish film of fibrin. The swelling at the proximal end of the appendix where there is also slight congestion is the actual site of obstruction of the lumen of the appendix by a small calculus.
