DescriptionSpecimen and Histological Glass Slide x3
The specimen shows a short segment of the ileum, opened to disclose the mucosal surface. The lesion is an ovoid tumour lying beneath the serosa of darkish purple colour and consisting of tortuous and dilated thin walled vascular channels. It measures approximately 5 cms. by 2 cms. and its long axis is in that of the bowel. On the mucosal aspect, there is discolouration but no real evidence of in bulging tumour. The specimen does not show any evidence of acute obstruction. In the mesentery, subjacent to the tumour there are several unduly prominent and dilated vessels. The tumour consists of typical dilated blood spaces lined by flattened endothelial and is in the nature of a cystic haemangioma.
