Clinical history:
From a male aged 44 who developed a rash, chest infection and anorexia 3 months before his death. These cleared but were followed by severe abdominal pain flitting to various parts of the abdomen and by development of severe hypertension accompanied by retinal changes, and by microscopic haematuria. Hypotensive drugs and steroids were given but he developed a fatal Gram-ve septicaemia.
Description of specimen:
Pancreas - Abscess (polyarteritis). The pancreas was above average size and parts of it were harder than normal. A few foci of fat necrosis were present and in the pancreas there was an abscess measuring 1 inch in diameter.
