These cleared but were followed by severe abdominal pain flitting to various parts of the abdomen and by development of severe hypertension accompanied by retinal changes, and by microscopic haematuria. Hypotensive drugs and steroids were given but he developed a fatal Gram-ve septicaemia. Description of specimen; Kidney - Polyarteritis nodosa. The kidney is about normal size but showing considerable irregularity of the subcapsular surface due to foetal lobulation with superimposed infarcts. The infarcted areas, although often showing some congestion, are depressed below the general surface indicating that they are of some age. On the cut surface pale depressed areas alternate in some places with congested areas of more recent ischaemic damage. The lesions have been produced by polyarteritic occlusion of the major vessels and several of these can be seen on the cut surface.
