DescriptionClitoris, hypertrophy of, from a women from Tanganyika, South Africa (modern day Tanzania). The surface, which must have protruded beyond the labia, is roughened and rugose and the mucosa has assumed the characters of epidermis. Anteriorly a cleft indicates the original component parts of the glans clitorides. Pigmentation is unequally distributed.
Note: Hypertrophy of the clitoris and the labia minora is common amongst certain African tribes. — The Masai of Tanganyika is a well recognised instance of this.
