Stomach, showing carcinoma.
The stomach presents a massive carcinoma of the infiltrating type which extends from the pylorus proximally in the stomach wall for a distance of approximately ill mm. The tumour is most evident on the lesser curvature and posterior surface of the stomach but has also spread round to involve a considerable part of the greater curvature. On the lesser curve it has infiltrated all the coats of the stomach wall which are replaced by a dense white mass of cartilaginous hardness measuring 30 nun. in maximum depth. On its inner surface the growth is ulcerated. The ulcer, though of large size, is shallow and has not penetrated the muscular coat of the stomach wall. Microscopically the growth is an adenocarcinoma with little or no glandular architecture. The majority of its tumour cells present evidence of intracellular mucin formation and have the appearance of typical Krukenberg cells with distended pale staining cytoplasm and a small nucleus displaced to the periphery. There are early signs of colloid degeneration.
