TitleStomach showing Carcinoma
Creator T.McW. Millar
DescriptionThe stomach has been laid open along the lesser curvature. A large fungating tumour, measuring 14 x 10 cm. projects from the mucosal surface of the lower part of the anterior wall and the greater curvature. The surface is coarsely lobulated and there is a deep sulcus between the margin of the tumour and its base, particularly in the distal region, where the moulding by the stomach has made the tumour project towards the pylorus. Microscopic examination of a portion of the tumour showed a papillary adenocarcinoma with well differentiated glandular structure. There was invasion of the submucosa but no spread to the peritoneal surface.
