The preparation is the navicular and talus bones, including some of its ligaments, the four medial metatarsal bones, and the distal portion of the tibia and fibula.
The distal portion of the tibia is fractured into the ankle joint and its medial segment turned backwards and its articular surface comminuted. The talus and navicular are much comminuted and the sustentaculum tali has been broken off the calcaneum.
